I pulled out my duffel bag and field pack which has been laid aside for the past few months yesterday to pack for my OBS trip.
When I zip open the bags, a familar smell engulf me... the smell of BMT. The smell of Tekong. The smell of my bunk.
Its not like I never wash my stuff. Its just this lingering smell from Tekong. I am sure you guys know what I am talking about.
I was reminded of my 3 months stay on that cursed offshore island. Though I call it a "cursed" island, it brings back to me fond memories.
Such nostalgia.

Ha. Sleeping is such a waste of time again. So much so that I decided to to sleep again for now.
Today's CIP for the annual Heartstrings Walk at the floating platform was so-so. I was deployed as the "Contingency Group" and my role is to walk the 6km walk with the crowd to watch out for any casualties or unprecedented disturbances during the walk. (How my duty has anything to do with my group name I don't know).
Anyways, with only half an hour of sleep the previous night, I set off with the crowd for the 6km walk. The president (the guest of honour, he came by submarine. nah) stood on a platform beside the starting point, shaking hands with his people, waving to them and smiling to them as the crowd walked past him.
We started from the floating platform, walked thru underneath the bridge next to Fullerton, passed by UOB plaza, advanced towards clarke quay, traversed through boat quay, made a turn at the turning point and retraced our steps back to the floating platform. Somewhere in the middle of our walk, I saw some Falun Gong practitioners distributing propagandic pamphlets to the walkers. They seemed to be quite happy... I assume they thought they can recruit a handful of people from the approximately 6000+ walkers but haha tough luck! We are not called Singaporeans for nothing...
For some arcane reason, I feel kind of exhausted after the walk. Mysterious...
Carracks! I bet they are armed with carronades to protect the president from seaborne threats!
Ha! What have we discover?
!!! Potential mosquito breeding spot! NEA please take note. Maybe its some plot to creat a dengue epidemic...
Singapore my homeland! (Russia really rocks)

Today is the first day of July in the Chinese calendar.
I just went to burn some joss paper for the "brothers" and "sisters" with chee lin, jin hong, brendan and lee chong on behalf of Alpha coy. I found out that chee lin is quite well acquainted with the customs of the ghost festival.
May all be well!

The National Day Observation Ceremony (a.k.a National Day Celebration in the Police Force) just ended. Don't be mistaken though. The ceremony was not meant for us cadets. It was meant for the the various department of the Force, Police Coast Guard, CID, CAD, the 6 divisions just to name a few.
No doubt we cadets were involve in the ceremony but our involvement were largely limited to what I would call the Saikang Department. We were in charge of ushering, registering the guests etc etc.
Walk out time was 5pm. Yet, I am still here in the Academy typing this blog. Why didn't I walk out with the rest? Well, the reason is simple. I have got provost duties today and I need to lower the State flag later at 7pm. I can leave only after the State flag has been lowered and sent to the guard house.
I will take the time to read as much of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as possible. I really enjoyed the Potface series. Very interesting. How I wish I can learn magic as well. Haha.
I have a vision for Singapore! *waves the miniature Singapore flag frantically*

This is bad. I have been inflicted with Otitis externa.
Otitis externa(aka Swimmer's ear), is the inflammation of the outer ear and ear canal. Inflammation of the skin of the outer ear canal is the essence of this disorder. The skin of the bony ear canal is unique, in that it is not movable but is closely attached to the bone, and it is almost paper thin. For these reasons it is easily abraded or torn by even minimal physical force.
Inflammation of the ear canal skin typically begins with a physical insult, most often from injury caused by attempts at self-cleaning or scratching with cotton swabs, hair pins, keys, or other small implements.
Another causative factor for acute infection is prolonged water exposure in the forms of swimming or exposure to extreme humidity, which can compromise the protective barrier function of the canal skin, allowing bacteria to flourish; hence the name, "swimmer's ear".
Oh man. i wished I had read this article earlier. Yesterday at home, I was still happily poking my ear with cotton sticks, trying to dig out ear wax(even though there was none, I just like the ticklish feeling) in an attempt to alluviate the pain in my right ear. And because I thought since it was swelling, I kept flooding my ear with water while bathing, hoping to "cool" down the swelling. Ack. Not a good move. Damn! No wonder the pain got worst this morning.
Stupid me. heck. Argh!
The following paragraph might be useful to some of you guys:
"A natural question is, "How can I clean my ears, then?" It is well established that in most people the top layer of the ear canal skin normally migrates toward the ear opening, essentially sweeping the canal on a continuing basis. In other words, a normal ear canal is self-cleaning. This self-cleaning physiologic feature fails in some patients, especially in late life, and periodic cleaning by a physician can be necessary. The most controlled and least painful means of cleaning impacted wax or dead skin from the ear canal is by using a binocular surgical microscope, which frees the examiner's hands to instrument the ear and provides the magnification and depth perception needed to avoid traumatizing the delicate canal skin and eardrum."
Visit wikipedia for more detailed explanations.
I still can't accept my retardedness in doing the exact opposite things to "cure" my right ear. Should have used "Esuna" or something like that... haha

I've got so many things that I want to say but for some reason, I can't. I just can't. Its like my thoughts are all flushed around inside me and I can't set them down and articulate them out.
I am facing several dilemmas and internal problems recently and it vexes me to the core just to think about them.
But yet, I can't escape from them. How ironic.
In the past, I used to condemn people who imbibes concoction conceived from the fermentation of sugars derived from starch based material. Ironically, now, I take pleasure in ingesting that mixture which I so abhorred a long long time ago. Its psychotropic effects is simply overwhelming. However, I must ensure that it does not become habitual. I must.
So they say ".. the only certainty about the future is its uncertainty."

Today was the enlistment day of a new batch of Police NS enlistees and I was the EmCee for today's enlistment ceremony.
Y.Em.Cee.A oh its fun to stay in the Y.Em.Cee.A ... (Ahem)
It was a nostalgia seeing the enlistees take the Oath of Allegiance. I myself took the Oath 7 months ago in Tekong. 7 months... how time flies.
7 months ago, I was like the new enlistees today.
7 months later I am hosting people's enlistment ceremony.
Life is full of surprises.
As new squads were enlisted today, old squads would be passing out tomorrow.
My senior OCT squad would be passing out tomorrow and tonight would be our last night living together in the same barracks. We would be holding a farewell party tonight in their honour. Other than my senior OCT squad, several other regular squads and NS squads would be passing out tomorrow as well.
I am looking forward to receiving my junior OCT squad in the coming September.

The Prime Minister came to visit the Home Team Academy yesterday. On my birthday.
For some reason, we have to restrict our movement around the academy so that we won't bump into him. Funny.
It was my turn to do provost duty again today. As usual, we provosts had our dinner after all squads left the mess. However, we had two additional guests tonight; 2 other FIs that decided to save a few bucks by eating the "Fear Factor" kind of mess food.
We talked as we are and our conversation slowly delve into the paranormal realm. All I can say is I am quite freaked out. Some of the incidents just happened 2 weeks ago. And I have got 6 more months to go. Never would I expect to hear more "stories" in the police force than in the army. Then again, I never expected so much things in my life.
Opps, Jaromes calling me to play DOTA now.
Guess I will just stop here.

Today's lessons were very interesting because I realised that the Law and the Constitution are somewhat twistable. Yes. Twist-able.
I was told by someone that I got what it takes to become an actor and I believed he meant comedian. He asked me to join MediaCorp. How amusing. Me as an actor? Never thought of it. But hey who knows! I never in my entire 18 years of life thought that I would end up being a police officer. Talk about expecting the unexpected. So perhaps somewhere in the future, you might see me on national TV.
I found the following video which is very inspirational to me.
Phone Salesman Amazes Crowd
You can see that before he even starts singing his opera, the judges already gave him some disapproving looks. The audiences weren't really sure if he could make it as well. What do you expect? His job is a cell phone salesman and he don't look like a singer. Definitely not an opera guy. BUT in the end, HE has the last laugh. He overwhelmed everybody with his extraordinary singing.
I just love it when his singing turned disapproving faces into amazed ones.
How to say it. Its like he was being underestimated but he proved his worth to everyone in the end and gained recognition from everybody. That feeling is like soooooooo shiok!
Anyway, his singing is really beautiful. Better than Taufik or Hady. Even Cowell admits that he is fantastic.
Believe in yourself and do your best.
All people out there, watch out for me. I might look like a wretched soul but I shall become... er...

Hiya!
Today, I learnt new PDT moves! Namely blocking and front rolling and back rolling. Interesting. I liked front rolling especially. Looks like ninja. HAHA.
And so, lesson ended at 2100++ hours. I came back and was browsing thru the web on my laptop when I found this freaking video. It shows a CCTV footage in a London Dungeon museum and well, mysterious shadows can be seen appearing in it. Ghost or not? You decide!
PS I got abit disturbed after watching this video because after all... I am in Home Team Academy now where paranormal activities happened before during my stay here... Even typing this sends a chill down my spine.
Without further ado;

I have the entire room to myself tonight because my buddy will only be booking in tomorrow morning as a reward for "volunteering" to "fill the seats" at a police basketball match in old PA.
In other words, I would be alone.
Just myself.
I am still young. I have so many unfulfilled ambitions.
Please, let tonight be a peaceful one. Just one night.
Leave me alone...
I am sorry for all the bad things I done in the past.
... stay away

Just ended seeing Red Eye, a Korean horror flick. Not very horrible to me though. Plus the ending is kinda screwed up. And by that, I don't mean the plot is screwed up. just that near to the end, the film starts to lag and lag and start playing pieces by pieces. i wan to complain but to whom? the pirates of the caribbean? hmmm... never mind. the ending should be those kind of happy endings. with one or two unexpected death. maybe.
Goodness gracious me! I can't believed I just typed a paragraph of downright abyssmal passage. Apparently, NS seem to make one more regressive academically. It is no exception even for me, who is currently studying law at the Home Team ACADEMY.

I don't feel like sleeping yet. Thats because I slept for abit when I came home just now. I feel no fatigue as of now. Maybe I should go run my two point four. but I don't want to risk bumping into something paranormal. i know! i can run at home! 120 laps between the kitchen and living room would give my 2.4km. hehe.
PDP was over last sunday. ASEANAPOL was over last monday. the PM dint stop and talk to me during the inspection. so be it. as least i got to be a GUARD OF HONOR! my heart goes all out to my SISPEC and OCS counterparts who only can be GUARD OF FOREST and GUARD DUTIES in their tua-pek-gong-knows how many field camps.
field camp... sounds so foreign to me. police #1... looks so ugly to me.
some of you all might think that GOH siaz. big dehz. glorious. honor. etc. well, from what i see, we trained for like 2 months just for some 20 minutes of performance. and that 20 minutes pass by very quickly. i felt so empty after the parade. its like. "hey, we are the GOH, we parade ourselves in this year's police day parade, march pass and buh-bye!" period. apart from during that fleeting 20 minutes.. i believe nobody would bother to think about us anymore. OCT Squad 01/07 comprising of YONG CHENG JIN, so and so and so and so... performed in 2007's PDP. who cares? after all, EVERY Officer Cadet Trainee batch will get to be GOH in the PDP every year. so if you think about it, its no longer very grand. even if the PM talks to you also no big deal. sure, your family members and friends will remember that you were once a GOH. but so? and also remember that memories fade with time. i need to do something BIG so that i would leave my place in the history of mankind. hmm. i could be that first singaporean to defect to the CIA! maybe not. not big enough. hmmmmmm. i cant think of anything at the moment. so lets skip this part.
I was the IC of my squad for thursday and friday. first time sia. then ended up giving wrong commands aha. but at least the squad knows wat to do. the only comment i have about my squad.. is... well, we are generally slack in our discipline. i mean. its like. its not like the army where we got sergeants, corporals and lieutenant-generals hurling verbal abuses at you and threatening to charge you confine you pump you screw you whatever you if you dont do this do that do whatever. the norm is that people tend to assume OCTs are supposed to be a league above others and knows how to conduct themselves properly. but from what i see... lets just say stereotypes are dangerous assumptions. sometimes in my dormitory, i would start thinking how it would be like if i was posted to OCS.. more disciplined. tougher trainings for stronger bodies. field camps. better food.. i would get my 2nd Lieutenant rank and the SWORD OF HONOR. then i would move on to command a platoon in a real combat unit where we would then be posted off to Iraq to fight the war against terror! we would be successful and for my merits, i would be promoted straightaway to major! NS major in 2 yrs. now that would be something big. alternatively, after i got my 2LT, i would be posted to commandos and be assigned to the top secret sneaking and evaesdropping unit. there, i would learn the ropes of a secret agent and become THE BOSS of singapore... ok nvm. looks like my military fantasies will be here to stay.
3.18am now. not a single thinge of tiredness. lets carry on.
tadah! my new wallpaper. i was getting sick of my old one. so i tot i would find a new one! cute isnt it. can stare-down with it somemore! hehe. i was thinking of pikachu initially but i already got that my HTA laptop. so ya.
this is a very disturbing costume IMO. but i admit, its quite funny. still, i won't encourage ppl to wear it. ted, please curb ur desires. ur tool arent that big...
The HMS Victory(foreground). My dream flagship for my "Pirates of the Caribbean" fantasy. I got so mesmerised by the series that I start picturing myself as a privateer in that era in the Caribbean. But I realised that the HMS Victory, though superior in firepower, sucks in the speed department. With a maximum speed of 7 knots, most pirates and my other prey would be able to escape me. So I decided to find another ship. . . .
... and I decided to use the Visby-class stealth corvette! It excels in both the firepower and speed department! Its single Bofors 57mm Mark III gun can fire up to 220 rounds/minute and if thats not enough, i will have spare Bofors Dynamics RBS 15 anti-ship missiles and ASW 127mm rocket-powered grenade launchers to strike the enemy ship. What if I ran into the Flying Dutchman that can submerge in water like a submarine, you might ask. No worries. I have the Saab Underwater Systems Tp 45 anti-submarine homing torpedoes to deal with it. Ha. And this corvette is a speed demon. Its maximum speed is a whooping 35 knots. That would be faster, many times faster, than the Black Pearl, which is said to be the fastest ship in the Caribbean. Not anymore haha! The best part is that the Visby corvette is built to be stealthy. See the awkard angles at which the sides of the ship slopes at? and the many flat surfaces on the ship? they are meant to reduce its signature on the enemy's radar screen. opps, i forgot, they don't have no radar back in that era. Captain CJ Yong is here to stay in the Caribbean.

3.44am. i am getting tired of crapping. shall go sleep now and start dreaming about my fantasies.

Received a scolding from ASP Dominic for not performing my duties. I am starting to understand how it is like to be working in the real world.
Lessons today were cancelled again because our Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister are visiting the Home Team Academy today and I reckon my lecturer is involved in the event in one way or another.
My 6th frame is going to commence at 1430 hours. This is the final frame. If I pass, the next range for me will be during my ORD period. If I fail, I would have to retake the thing and it would be reflected in my testimonials.
Luckily the range complex is air-conditioned, unlike the feverish range in Tekong...
