God bless America.

Ahhh!!!!

Money money money! I seem to be running out of cash all the time and I am getting increasingly nearer to becoming a bankrupt! My Noble $2 Chicken Rice Operation is a really effective money saving scheme but eating 10 packets of it every week is seriously no joke. Remember how we use to count ourselves lucky for not being enlisted into Commandos training? My Chicken Rice Operation is equally, if not, tougher than the Men of Steel with the Crimson Beret.

Two packets (one for breakfast and lunch) for Monday is cool, the Chicken Rice tastes fantastic. Two packets for Tuesday and you start to feel so-so but the Chicken Rice is still edible. Two more for Wednesday and you feel like you are in deja vu, wondering what you have been eating for the past two days. Come Thursday you will start to doubt your memory and wonder if your taste buds have been programmed by default to taste chicken rice only. Another two more for the next day and you wished you NEVER thank god for Friday. Come next Monday, you will be on your way to the hospital for gastric lavage.

If you are strong enough to endure through this operation for 3 weeks, you will contract Avian Flu and die. Only in very rare cases will there be people who can last more than 3 weeks; these people are usually abnormal and they are most probably on their way to evolving into a Chickman species. I have never actually seen one before but hey, the world is big and there are infinite possibilities. Do let me know if anyone of you ever witness this Chickman species.

And no, don't look at me. No doubt I may be the creator of this Noble Operation but even the great I can only last through 2 weeks tops. I wonder if there are any better ways to save money. Perhaps I should try eating French Loaves instead! I might be able to evolve into a Frenchman!!! On second thought, I think I am fine the way I am.

I have been chewing my food with the right side of my mouth for the past week because this homeless ulcer from somewhere decided to set up its humble abode inside my left mouth. Although the ulcer is disappearing, my right side has been sore with all the extra chewing that it seems to be growing another ulcer again. Never mind.

For lack of better things to do on a Sunday night, I decided to create this hypothetical poll because I am very curious to know what others will do if something like this happened to them. Here goes.

Suppose one day your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend were to cheat/intend to cheat/almost cheat/conspiring to cheat on you irregardless of whatever reasons he/she might have, would you rather he/she tell you the truth? Would you be willing to sit down and listen to his explanation before deciding what to do, be it to go seperate ways or continue to move on with a renewed pledge of love?

OR

Would you prefer him/her to lie to you and deceive you so that you can continue to believe erroneously that you are the one and only in his/her life? As long as he/she continues to be together with you, you can forsake the truth and live in your delusional beliefs.

OR

You are a bitch/bastard as well who have been two timing your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend all these times when you are together too.

Right. The question have been asked and the floor is now yours. Let me know what you guys think. By the way, you can only vote once so please vote carefully.

Truth or Lie?
Come clean with me and I might be benevolent.
Keep me in the dark so that I can continue to remain happy.
It doesn't matter. I am doing the same too!

Nothing on Earth can quantify the amount of frustration in me now. So there is no point talking too much about it. Just know that I am V-e-r-y angry.

Grrrr!

Today's Japanese test was a piece of cake. Really. I chomped it up with but a mere two chews. I will be advancing to the next level soon. And that means I need to pay the fees for the next level too! Its a $267.50 bill mind you. But never mind. This is a self-investment. Like someone great who told my 7 months long sleeping buddy (his my camp mate. CAMP MATE!) "When you are young, try to learn as much as possible for you will never know when the skills you have mastered could aid you in future one day."

I have to second that. It makes perfect sense. I might end up working for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Or becoming the Japanese voice actor for Pikachu in Pokemon God-knows-what-version. Or a Tako Pachi vendor in Tokyo Park. Or a Ninja! Samurai! Bushido Warrior! Pornstar! Hard --- what? Never mind. The point is it will be useful to invest in yourself and learn new stuff so as to differentiate yourself from the 6,769,999,999 (six billion seven hundred and sixty nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine) other Earthlings.

Just to quote from a vaguely familiar source - Live as if you are going to die tomorrow. Learn as if tomorrow never comes. Take note of the "if"s.

Oh. Actually, one probable and realistic use which I have for my knowledge of the Japanese language now is to get a Japanese girlfriend! My very own かのじょ. And then I will go 楽しいですよ! Who knows we might even have キンキ sex. a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha a-ha HA-CHOOO

no. I am not grinning at my own post like some retarded kid. really. just an innocent sneeze. *snorts*

April 15, 2009

Its been awhile since I woke up feeling good - a deviation from the norm where I will dread to open my eyes in the morning, cursing at the notion of having to work. I went to bathe happily. I changed into my working attire happily. I went out of the house happily. I bought my usual chicken rice happily. I walked to the MRT station happily. Everything was happy. It is like a special day where you feel that everything is simply wonderful. I even had a pleasant surprise towards the end of the day!

As the final few rays of the setting sun hit the cascading terrace of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, another day of work has come to an end yet again. But this is also yet another prologue to a new day of work tomorrow. Working, working and working still. At least my job now is a little livelier in this never-ending cycle of labor.

The paradox of loving and hating someone at the same time is most... incomprehensible.

Too much have been said and done.
Never mind, i will be fine on my own.

DO YOU WANT TO SEE MY DIE SO BADLY!!!!!!!

I ended up watching COMING SOON instead! It is a new Thai horror film which revolves around this cursed movie which brings death to anyone who watched it. The victim do not need to watch the whole film... he just need to watch this particular scene in it. And he will D-I-E.

Initially, I wanted to watch at Plaza Sing because they have this supposedly haunted theatre there and I thought it will be more thrilling, especially since I am watching alone. But there was no timeslots available. So I went to the Cathay instead. I was half expecting something to grab my hand or leg halfway through the movie. Of course no such thing happened, though i wouldn't mind if there was a hand I could hold on to.

The Mac at Plaza Sing was full so I went over to Marina Sq to have my dinner after the show (ya ya grow fat and die. watever)

After that Sher came over and I helped her with some video conversion so that she can watch her Ugly Betties, Heroes and Friends while on the go. Damn. Her new iPod Touch 2nd Generation is such a beauty!

Work starts in another 9 hours. Same old stuff again. Boring. I hope something exciting will happen soon.

Is a scholar an elitist?

It is common for us to associate scholars with elitists. After all, in order for a scholar to obtain his scholarship, he needs to be outstanding in certain aspects, distinguishing himself from his peers. However, it is misleading to assume all scholars are part of the privileged few with absolute right to wealth and power.

Whatever reasons one might have for becoming a scholar, an undeniable fact is that all scholars want to have an advantage over others in the modern competitive world. Some are students who need financial assistance while others are attracted by the job opportunities which scholarships provide upon graduation. Some might even be solely after the prestige of a scholarship. Therefore, for most scholars, obtaining a scholarship is just a mean to reach their goals. It is only after they become successful later on in life that some might start to feel that they belong to a higher echelon in society.

For scholars who believe that they are vastly superior, it is probably due to their upbringing and other environmental factors. They have already been shaped to have the mindset of an elitist even before having obtained the scholarship. Thus, it is not surprising that they retain their “elitist” mindset even after becoming a scholar.

A scholarship does not change a person into an elitist overnight. Neither does it has the power to. No doubt some might feel slightly superior because of the exclusive benefits they received from the scholarship but the extent of self-gratification will not lead them into thinking they are vastly superior to everyone else.

Ultimately, it is not the scholarship that matters but the holder of the scholarship. One can be exceptionally capable and smart yet humble at the same time.

Huat ah. with that I am finally done with the application of all my scholarships. one less worry off my mind thanks in large part to the ketchup tycoon DEL MONTE! whew. lets see... what shall i do for the rest of the day?

the weather seems great for swimming though i would rather stay at home and play FATAL FRAME 3!
BAR BAR BLACK SHEEP HAVE YOU ANY MOO?
YES SIR YES SIR THREE RAY BOO!

This is a cozy little al fresco pub restaurant tucked away in the tranquil estate of Cherry Avenue. Hmmm. Is it me or does the place sounds like somthing from the Pokemon world?

Most of the patrons there are ang mohs and it creates some sort of a psuedo-American diner ambience which is definitely to my liking. My HSBC counterpart (the one without a hot date) found this place while surfing the net and felt that its a good place for us to chill and relax and eat and drink. I have to agree with his intuition.

We ordered a Tower of Stella Artois and drank to our hearts content, thanks to brandon whom, because of his principle, cannot consume alcohol.

ho ho ho. who needs the tower of babil when we can have a tower of BEER! time to drink and grow a beer belly! and the best thing is this tower costs 50% less than it would have at other places. generally, the beverages there are cheaper as compared to other places. which is why its a good place to chill and hang out and drink.

while we were drinking and talking cock, this female peddler appeared out of nowhere and shocked us with her obscenely liberal methods: "Aye! Want to buy DVD anot?"

she is selling pirated DVDs! she brought along a gigantic bag packed full with DVDs (porn or not we dunno coz we dint bother to entertain her) and went from table to table to peddle her goods! we were like - what the hell? when was the sale of pirated DVDs legalized? for those who might be interested, you must go there to have your meal. just wait for awhile and the peddler will appear. mysteriously.

this is the tandoori nasi briyani which chingay ordered for his dinner. indian food in a western pub... talk about east meet west. the pub serves thai food as well. such a melting pot is most welcomed since it gives us more variety to choose from but i would recommend you guys to just stick to the western menu because the thai and indian food are actually prepared by other seperate stalls in the vicinity which doesnt really taste as good. and the serving is just enough to fill the stomach of an adolescent. and the price? a hefty $12.

he doesnt seem too happy with his food... LOL!

moving on, this is the HOMEMADE BEEF BURGER which i ordered. looks more appetizing isnt it?

RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the bionic burger cruncher mutilating one of its many many defenseless victims! HOO HOO HOO HA HA HA HA *CHOMP* *CHOMP* *GULP*

wei jie ordered a set of calamari rings with lots of fries and some salads. brandon didnt order anything because he ate at his workplace before coming to join us. he had free flow of breads and fillings at his subway outlet... ok at least he did order a cup of juice.

anyway, the food there is nothing new. burgers and the usual western food but they are delicious. for my beef burger, i can taste and feel the juice oozing out from the handmade patty when i chomp down on it. at least its not the standard machine made patty found in megamacs worldwide... but i still love megamac! one thing to note is that the waiting time for the food is very long. we waited for about 30 minutes before my burger and wei jie's calamari set arrived. however, for those ordering from the thai and tandoori menus, you will be able to see your food in less than 5 minutes. the choice is yours.

2.5 litres of beer flushed away...

...by chingay, wei jie and yours truly. brandon looks so serious. i guess its because his the only sober person around since he didnt drink anything hahaha. i look EXCEPTIONALLY cheerful. and yellow.

after our hearty dinner and drink, we went nearby to have ice dream for dessert. cant remember the name of the shop but i think its venecia or something like that. i ordered durian supreme plus tiramisu. brandon dark chocolate. wei jie belgium chocolate and picasso. chingay coconut.

thereafter, we went to pee and then went home. it was a night well spent catching up with one another. we talked about going to australia but didnt confirm anything because of money issues. but i would like to go there. especially after brandon told us about the fun things which we can do there. for one, we can go into the Great Victoria Desert and try mining for gold. or we can go to the zoo and poke the koalas with sticks. what am i talking about?

feeling satisfied by the meal and drinks, i hit the bed immediately when i reached home.

but... if i am already asleep who is writing this post then? could it be... the legendary GHOST WRITER? or maybe i am just suffering from bipolar disorder.

March 23, 2009

The first day of work at a new workplace turns out to be more physical than i expected. When I entered my office in the morning, I realized somebody, alot of people actually, have dumped their cartons upon cartons of belongings into it. It looks more like a warehouse actually if it wasn't for the fact that I was told last week that it was my office... How can people be so inconsiderate. Just because it is a temp staff's office doesn't mean they can use it as a storeroom! Total disregard for my existence. Then again, nobody gives a shit about us.

My office-turned-warehouse was really in a mess. Cartons were stacked all over and we have to squeeze into our seats. Oh, did I mention that the office is actually shared by 3 people, including myself? Picture this; an office about 3m by 2m packed with 3 humans, 3 desktops and 15 or so cartons of junk. Thank goodness i do not have claustrophobia.

So I started my day's work amidst a sea of... things. Half way through, the Super Big Boss came into my office with the Business Head (both are big shots lah) and the former was telling the latter that my office is so unsightly it resembles a garang guni shack... And he wants the respective supervisors to remove their stuff from my office. I should have known that Super Big Boss was referring to us temp staff when he said "respective supervisors"... WTH lah!

Me and my colleague lz then spent the afternoon clearing stuff from the office by shifting them to another empty room. Half way through, lz... met some problems and I had to carry on alone. It was not until 4pm plus that our office-cum-warehouse became an office. At around 5.30pm we had a "housewarming" party where all the uber big shots came down to celebrate the relocation of our department to the new place. There were donuts and tarts and tea and coffee. I ate 3 donuts and drank a cup of tea. Hey, I deserved it.

My workstation.

The view from my office...

... and add in my pair of legs. Hehe.

My latest addiction. STARBUCKS FRAPPUCINO!!! Quite expensive though.

A few moments ago, I was struck by this very uneasy feeling... it just came suddenly. I dunno what caused it but it just feels as if something bad is going to happen. A very bad feeling tugging at my heart. The feeling is gone now but... I wonder what it meant.

Hopefully its not something bad.

March 22, 2009

Today is just another Sunday at home for me. I am supposed to start on my NTU Scholarship essay but the procrastination virus got to me again. I wanted to revise my Japanese but the lazy bug bit me.

Ugh. Am I degenerating? I probably need a generator or something to help me regenerate.

So I read through a few pages of "The World without Us" - a new book which I just started. It talks about how Nature will undo the damage we inflicted to Earth and the ecosystem after the extinction of the entire human species. Hence, the world without us.

I started watching Sex and the City season 1. I finished the first 5 episodes and just loaded the remaining 7 episodes into my iPod. It talks about love, sex, woman and relationships. A most interesting lesson which I desperately need. Downloading season 2 now. I also watched Rec. True enough, its much more clearer than the American version Quarantine. And the TV host is much more cuter haha.

I convinced myself that I do not need a new iPod by reorganizing all the music and movies in my existing one to make it look "new". While looking through my PC for songs to add into my pod, I discover this folder full of songs from the past ten years! Some of the songs really brings back memories and reignited old flames from the past. Not sure what that means but basically, its nolstagia for me =D added some of these songs in my playlist. I am especially intrigued by "U can't touch this"... why does Ted comes to mind immediately lol. His Maple Story nick maybe.

The remaining time I spend on sleeping. Sleep sleep sleep. Good for health... Sleep and wake up sleep and wake up again. I will be starting work at my new office tomorrow! I prefer my old one though coz the new one is smack right in between my boss's office and my department head's office. Die. Cannot slack as much as I used to previously LOL!!!!! Never mind. At least I have a good view from my new office.

New Ad Online

up for sale is a nokia 8800 arte which i bought in UK last year. selling it to clear my room. because the item was purchased in UK, it cannot use M1 sim cards.

I REPEAT - THIS PHONE DOES NOT SUPPORT M1 sim card!!!!!

However, Starhub and Singtel sim cards can be used by this phone. Sorry M1 users :)
Phone is in perfect working condition. Outlook will be 9/10. there is a scratch on the charging dock but it shudnt be a problem.

The phone comes with the whole package and box. I lost the pouch which comes with the phone but i replaced it with another original nokia pouch.

Bought it for around $1800 at that time. now u can own this fashion icon for just $650!!!!!

Dont miss the offer. Grab the chance to own this masterpiece phone now!

.....
I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Ho ho ho... Mom and Dad enjoying a moment of intimacy.
Who says senior couples can't get romantic LOL.

March 19, 2009

and so it came to pass. the man who got tempted by the cheap deal got cheated himself.

after spending another $139 on repairs and upgrading service for the phone, it still CANT WORK! the blinking son-of-a shopkeeper tell me what because i bought the phone from overseas, it won't be able to access all mobile networks. BUT the phone can use SINGTEL AND STARHUB sim cards but not M1. Why? Because M1 is one of the mobile network that the phone cant access.

I dunno about you guys but that explanation has so many holes I can bore thru it better than Phoenix Wright!

then, as if trying to add salt to injury, the shopkeeper dares to tell me that I need to pay another $100 extra for Technician's Service Fee. he said i need to understand that the technician they hired to do the job needs to be paid as well. and I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOUR BARBECUED PENIS?!?!?!?! so i told the young man that there is no such thing as demanding extra payment from me after confirming with me that the final price is $139! the fucking receipt i got in my hand states $139 and now u happy happy wan to add another $100! I dun wan to understand ur technician. you guys should work out the appropriate fees first before quoting me the price! not change ur mind already then come and find me for money.

seriously is the guy retarded? how in the world did he manage to open a shop and do business? i know, he must be another con-man.

Anyway, i refused to pay the $100 and took the useless phone and stormed out of the store. I am not going back to sim lim square again for this kind of things. they are out to chop ur vegetable head only!!!!

after that, i inspected my phone and feel that they didnt do anything to it at all. they claimed that they will help me change the microchip inside so that all the software will become a local set software. but the old settings and old functions of the phone when i first got it are still there. in fact, everything seems intact. then it dawned upon me that they might not have done anything AT ALL! they probably just collected my money and phone, promise me the services, break their promise by doing nothing and then send me away with the lame excuses that they tried their best etc etc etc.

come to think of it, when i went to the shop last saturday, the shopkeeper promised that if the phone still cant work, they will give me a full refund! bullshit! they only gave me a stomach full of infernoes and a personal vendetta against that dark stained building!!!!!!!

remember this 3 lessons people:

1. DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY CHEAP STUFF ON THE NET!

2. BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING ELECTRONICS FROM OVERSEAS. THEY MIGHT NOT BE USABLE IN SINGAPORE

3. AVOID PATRONIZING SIM LIM SQUARE AND FEEDING YOUR BLOOD TO THE LEECHES THERE

March 17, 2009

Great. So now I am stuck with writing an essay of 500 words about myself. What am I suppose to say? My family? My likes dislikes? What I do for a living? My twisted past? My boss?

Sheeez... so broad. Wished they have given us more specific topics.
AHHHHHHHH!

The deadline for my scholarship application is this Friday! But I am still 4 essays short of completing the application. And I am not exactly in the right condition to compose a decent essay. And to top that off, I have another Japanese test this Saturday!!!

Somebody give me some juice to help me with my thinking!

Are scholars elitist?

How am I supposed to know? Why don't you ask them?

Describe yourself in 500 words or less.

I love to eat Mega Mac for lunch. I have a fetish for Pikachu. I want to lay down my life for the Great Motherland. I...

What is your proudest moment during NS?

I hated myself for not reading this fantastic book earlier (bought it in 2007).

Science is the new god... or is it?

In our modern world of technological wonders, Science has embedded itself deeply within each of us. Medical breakthroughs, environmental conservation, space exploration, genetic alteration - Science seems to be able to solve all our problems with tangible means.

So pardon my boldness but - do we still need religion?

Back in ancient times when humans were still retarded entities with no technology, we look to our faith for hope. We look to our gods. Sometimes, our prayers will be answered. Sometimes, they went unheard. Statistics-wise, I have to say that the ratio of unheard prayers is higher than that of answered prayers. Miracles do not happen everyday. And even if they do, can we be sure they are miracles?

So now we have Science that can give us tangible results with tangible means. Do we still need our faith in our religion; intangible faith that might not give us any results at all?

Angels and Demons will reveal everything. Go read it!

In a peanut's shell, the book is about the revival of an ancient anti-christ and pro-science organization and their plan to annihilate their long time oppressor - the Catholic Church. The story will bring you from the technological brilliance of CERN to the ancient and mysterious Vatican City. In the end, you will realize that there is more to it than it meets the eye.

As a big fan of the occult and conspiracy theories, I hereby reach out to those that are like me out there to read the book if you haven't already!!!

I was intrigued by the various landmarks and locations in the book and decided to go see how it looked like in real life. I want to know if they still bear the secret markings of a secret history...

So this is where the story started off - CERN. The white circle marks the underground Large Hadron Collider used by CERN to conduct particle research. And as its name suggests, its L-A-R-G-E in every sense of the word. The white dotted line is the boundary between France and Switzerland.

A country by itself, the Vatican City stands within Rome, a capital of another country. At just 0.44km sq big, the Vatican is... do the math yourself. Singapore is 710.2km sq big and already people criticize us for being a dot on the map.

Behold the St. Peter's Square, heart and core of the Vatican City!

This is the St. Peter's Basilica, situated right in front of St. Peter's Square. It houses the office for the Pope and many many other secret chambers... the entrance to the original Vatican Hill is somewhere inside.

These are Swiss Guards - sworn protectors of the Pope and the Holy See. Do not be fooled by their uniforms for they are specially trained to be in charge of the Pope's security. Think of them as equivalents to the US Secret Service. And do not laugh. Their uniform are derived from the designs of Michaelangelo himself!

Let angels guide you on your lofty quest.

I saw in his hand a long spear of gold, and at the iron's point there seemed to be a little fire. He appeared to me to be thrusting it at times into my heart, and to pierce my very entrails; when he drew it out, he seemed to draw them out also, and to leave me all on fire with a great love of God. The pain was so great, that it made me moan; and yet so surpassing was the sweetness of this excessive pain, that I could not wish to be rid of it.

The Fountain of the Four Rivers. This is a crucial clue in the quest to finding the Path of - I have said too much...

The St. Angelo's Castle. I fell in love with it when I first saw it. I want a castle like that too!

Another interesting feature in the story is the use of ambigrams. An ambigram is a graphical figure that spells out one or more words not only in its form as presented, but also in another direction or orientation. Take a look at the following to see what it means:

Angels and Demons

Smile

Ambigram

Thank you

Copy these images and then rotate them 180 degrees in your image viewer or if you can use your imagination. They will still depict the same word. Interesting eh? You can read up more on ambigrams at John Langdon.

The Vatican is now on my places to visit list.
This is most... unexpected.
What is going on?
Everything just changed tonight.
And so I went back to Sim Lim Square today to get my phone fixed. For some weird reason, the shop which I went to yesterday, the one that quoted me $30-$50, told me that they do not provide any unlocking services anymore. So I went to check out other shops and found one that was willing to do the job for me for $130. Well, $139 to be exact; the same old 7% GST trick after they settled everything with you and because everything has been settled, you can't refuse.

AHHHHH! Why do I keep falling for the same trick! People, next time when you go Sim Lim or Lucky Plaza or anywhere else, always remember to ask for the NETT PRICE! Or if you want to make it clearer, ALWAYS CONFIRM WITH THE DAMN SHOP THAT THE PRICE THEY QUOTE YOU IS THE FINAL PRICE, NO GST NO SERVICE CHARGE OR WHATEVER FUNNY CHARGES.

I believe I could find a better offer in other shops but I am not motivated enough to comb through the entire complex. Besides, the shops there are in cahoots one way or the other so I guess the standard price is around there. I will be collecting the phone on Wednesday...

I fell sick again. The familiar sore throat and fever. Fortunately, I feel better after taking a couple of Panadols and 3 hours of sleep.

ZOMGWTFBBQ!

Red Alert 3 has just gotten better!

In the aftermath of Red Alert 3, when the Allies prevailed over all their foes, how would the defeated Empire of the Rising Sun, with their egoistical pride, react to such a brutal humiliation to their honour? And will the Soviets submit obediently to their long time capitalist rival and forsake their comradeship ideals? All this shall be unveiled in the new expansion set: Red Alert 3 UPRISING!!!

Featuring new casts, UPRISING will pick up from where Red Alert 3 left off and bring us into the insurrections of the two defeated factions. It will also unveil the mystery behind Yuriko Omega - the psychic commando of the Empire of the Rising Sun.

RIC FLAIR - 16 time WWE World Heavyweight Champion; the Dirtiest Player in the Game; the Nature Boy is featured as one of the cast inside the game as well (thats him in the middle of the picture, wearing the blue uniform)! WOooooooOOOOooooOOOooo

I am definitely getting this game!
Alright I gave my essay a twist. Instead of going to Vatican City, I ended up going to Malaysia to eat durians. But when I was driving on the North South Highway, I suddenly saw a white figure behind me which looks like pontianak! Petrified, I jammed my accelerator and drove as fast as I could. A few minutes later, the white figure disappeared and I heaved a sigh of relief. I continued my journey and eventually reached the Durian Town. I went to a Durian Shop to buy my durians. After eating the durians, I fell asleep mysteriously and when I woke up the next morning, I was in the middle of a field! The Durian Town vanished! I had just met a ghost!

I wonder what my sensei will think when he reads my essay. Why do I feel that I am going to fail my mid-term test suddenly?

Today's reservist session was as boring as last week's. Although we had practical lessons today, the practical was as good as a classroom lecture because the instructors were the one carrying out the demonstrations and we students just stood and listen. Good news from my NS department - I won't have to go back for another 1 month. Bad news - I have to go back again in April and June. WTF?

The phone feels solid enough.

After waiting for 3 weeks, the Nokia 8800 Arte which I ordered online finally arrived! But to my absolute horror, the phone was not in BRAND NEW condition as the seller had claimed and my SIM card cant work on it! When I brought it to Nokia Care Centre to see if I can repair it or something, the service officer told me that they cannot repair/unlock/update the software of the phone for me because it is an export set from UK and Nokia does not carry International Warranty so they cannot tamper with phones that are not locally produced. I don't know how this company policy works but it only means one thing - I am screwed. The customer officer even went the extra mile to advise me to bring my phone to the UK for servicing. Wow. Thanks alot. You deserve a backhand slap for that.

Wow. Nokia decided to give the Arte packaging a vintage look.

So I went to Sim Lim Square today with my BEST COUSIN (now turned BEST FRIEND too) Sher to see if the not so legal shops there can help me with my problems. The first shop we went to have the bloody cheek to quote me $150 for unlocking my phone, citing the reason that because my phone is a luxury phone, the process will be more complicated and thus, more expensive. My Con-man, you can go f*&% yourself with a satellite phone. My Nokia 8800 is luxurious because of the materials used to manufacture it. Inside its core, the phone uses the same Symbian S40 series platform like most other common Nokia phones. You should count yourself lucky that I have already ORD-ed.

The next shop we went to does not provide any clandestine services. The third shop we went to told us that the unlocking fee will be between $30-$50 (Mr Con-man from earlier, I think you need to use a military communication set instead) but we need to hand over the phone to the shop for 2 to 3 days. I wanted to get my phone back immediately so I declined the offer. After that, we went to Sim Lim Tower but didn't have any luck either.

Sher suggested to me that it might be the SIM card's problem so I called up M1 and check with them. The customer officer advised me to bring my SIM card down to a M1 store where they can check for me. So off we went to Bugis M1 where it was revealed that the problem lies with my phone, not my SIM card. To put it simply, I just bought a phone which cant be used in Singapore. I think I deserve a prize for that -.-

MORAL OF THE STORY: Do not be tempted by cheap items on eBay and be careful when purchasing electronics from foreign countries as they might not work in our fine garden city.

I will be going back to SLS.

At least the phone is ...

... free of major scratches.

Whats with the crumpled booklet? And all those different types of plastic wrappers used to store the accessories? And a brown leather pouch for a black phone in a black box?

Is that a red pair of earpiece protector?

Looks can be deceiving.
