I remember,
date and time,
September twenty second,
Sunday twenty five after nine.

In the doorway with your case,
no longer shouting at each other,
there were tears on our faces.

And we were letting go of something special,
something we'll never have again,
I know, I guess I really really know.

The day you went away.

OH MY GOD!

This is such a mean prank but I so like it! Hehehehehehehe.

Now now. Should I do this in future? Is it even right for me to think about it LOLOL. Maybe I shall try it on some of my friends. With something else other than cockroaches.

NIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHI *evil grins*
Haizzz.

I am suffering from Down's syndrome recently. Feeling really down even though I tried standing up over and over. Have I been trying too hard? Or am I getting ahead of myself? Squall was right about not getting your hopes up after all.

So, being the down person that I am now, I can't do any productive work. I was supposed to finished my lab report by today - oh, its past 12 already, so it should be yesterday but I just lazed my day away doing nothing.

I will never be able to pull my GPA up this way. I asked one of my friends how did he get his obscenely disgusting grades the other day and his answer to me was to study day in and day out. I kid you not. He is not just brushing me off with some generic answer. He really study DAY IN and DAY OUT. In other words, immediately after school, during breaks or during any free time he has, he will camp at the school's library to read through the textbook and try to attempt every single question in it. And he does this for every module.

If that is what I have to do to get a GPA 5.0 (or 4.9), I wonder how close am I to achieving that now.

No matter. I believe life is more than just academics. There's Facebook, beer, WWE, Engadget and Youtube. Speaking if Youtube, i found this super funny video which I just have to share.

GIMME GIMME WAR GIMME WAR!

My Aerodynamics lecturer showed us this video during class today. Without a doubt, a jet engine is a badass power machine. But what must be even more badass are the brakes holding the plane stationery under the immense thrust of the engines! I am gonna buy one and aim it at, erm, my neighbour's house? If I am still staying in hall, I will aim it downstairs.

Maybe I could steal the engine on display in my school's laboratory. Hehe.

If only that is true.

Reading it in a book is one thing. Seeing the cold hard facts with my own eyes is totally another. Not many people knows about such abomination going on in the meat industry around the world. Most just eat their food and never bothered about its origins. After all, food is just food right?

It is our very demands for meat that fuels the existence of such practices in the industry. We want meat and we want it affordable. To maximise their profits, meat industries capitalize on our demand and rear animals the way they do in the video; squeezing as much animals as possible into as small a space as possible to save land costs, feeding the animals waste to save on feed costs, slaughtering them with massive machines to save on operational costs and handling them in the crudest way possible to save on human resource costs.

Think about it. Animals being cruelly treated in slaughterhouses is an open secret which many governments know. But why are industry leaders still allowed to carry on with it?

Its a pretty fucked-up world we live in. A vicious cycle. On one hand, we have people lobbying for animal rights but on the other, we have people eating them, as well as treating them in the worst way possible. Talk about eating out the end of your tail.

I am pretty sure people who watched the video will feel disgusted but at the end of the day, their diet still remains the same.

How many people will actually make a difference by changing their diet?

On a side note, I can't help but feel that one day, when aliens or some other un-discovered intelligent species on Earth conquered us, will humans ever end up like the animals in the video?

Nice car from Volkswagen. I want it.

Its a Saturday morning!

I just came back from Lorong Koo Chye Ba Temple where my mom made my family go to pray for good luck. She went to the temple at 5am in the morning to get a good waiting number (yes, people queue at the temple at the earliest time possible to be the first few to get blessed by the taoist priest. Think of it like the iPhone release day). When my father, brother and me arrived at about 9am, the number flashing on the queuing board is 132 (yes, I was at a temple). Our number is 233.

I really respect my mom for doing this every year. For the benefit of the family, she dragged herself out of bed at 4am, cab down to the temple, queue for the number (whether she jockeyed other aunties in the process, I don't know) and finally, waited at the temple alone for several hours for us, just so we could sleep in later. I guess that's why mothers are the noblest person in the world. Every family has one!

While waiting for our turn, I walked to the Zodiac chart to check out my fortune for this year; my blossom luck will be good (really?) but my financial luck is only so-so. Career wise, I will meet some expensive people who will assist me but since I am still studying, I hope that also means some expensive people will come help improve my GPA. I saw something about "Six Misfortunes" afflicting me this year but even so, the chart says it won't amount to much problems for those born in the year of the Dragon. A generally good year for me I guess.

My mom bought muah-chee for me. So nice.

By 10am, the number flashing on the queuing board is only 180. Worried that she might miss her ferry to Batam at 11am, my mom went to ask some temple attendant if we would go first or something. Guess what? The attendant asked us to just sneak into the queue line outside the Blessing Room and keep silent about our number. Wow. Isn't that like... cheating? And its kinda easy isnt it? Haha. Either way, we did just that and managed to get blessed 50 spots ahead of our turn.

I wonder if the deities know...

Ahhhh. But the attendant said we could!

I saw a couple of idioms at the temple which I though I should share it with others:

恶语伤人六月寒
(Badmouthing others will bring yourself 6 months of cold)
良言一句三冬暖
(Saying good things will keep you warm through 3 winters)
烦恼只因强出头
(Vexation comes only because you try too hard)
是非只因多开口
(Scandals/gossip comes only because you speak withing thinking)

Ok. My translation may not be entirely correct but the general meaning is to be nice to others and be carefree.

There are weird stuff. And then there are even weirder stuff.

Have you ever thought of what you will do if your shit suddenly comes alive and starts attacking you? Even though I am kind of a whacky person, that scenario never once came across my mind. After all, shit is just... shit right? But in Japan, shit is something more sinister...

WTF Japan. WTF?!

P.S. Sihua, please be safe. I want my Pikachu merchandise.

Chinese New Year seems to be more lively this year. Relatives were generally more friendly. And there's more APM flowing around as well. It was a good CNY celebration. But... things seem to be going a little too well. Maybe its just me?

Hmm...

My big cousin uncle said I look like 费翔, a chinese singer back from the 80s. Wow. Someone thinks I look like a superstar!

Maybe not. Bleh.

February 02, 2011

Hello people. It has been so long since I last blogged.

That is because my internet connection was down and no, its not down because I am living in Egypt. Its because somebody refuses to foot the internet bill (even though it was his responsibility). After ignoring all the bills sent to our home for the last 10 months, that person finally decided to foot the bill last Friday - a total sum of $598.00.

Like "WTH" right? Come on, even if he doesnt know what an avalanche is, he should at least know that a small snowball will become a huge snowball if you allow it to roll continuously down a slope. And that huge snowball will eventually crush him to death.

But never mind. Since he has already foot the bill (no thanks to his initiative) and since its going to be the first day of Lunar New Year soon, I shall be nice and stop talking about his retarded decision making skills.

Yes, in about 30 minutes time, the Year of the Rabbit will begin in the Lunar Calendar. As a matter of fact, I just came back not long ago from my Reunion Dinner. Sephiroth wasnt present but otherwise, the food was great. All that is left now is too wait for the ang pows tomorrow. As well as the gathering of all my family members. Haha.

Since its gonna be a new year soon, let me share one health tip with you guys which will help to achieve a better you.

Lift up your t-shirt and place your palm slightly below your right nipple. What lies underneath that patch of skin in that area is your liver. The liver is the largest organ in your body that can weight up to 1.8kg in adults. It's primary function is to purge toxins from your blood. Some other things it does is converting ammonia into urea and producing bile to break down all those fats you ingested along together with your curry chicken, mega mac, bak chor mee, satay, naan, roti prata and what nots.

Think of your liver as a filter in the fish tank. The filter removes waste particles from the water and keeps the fish tank clean.

A picture paints a thousand words. So let's have a graphic representation.

And another one.

Like a tamagotchi, our liver has an internal biological clock which dictates the liver's 'operating hours'.

9 - 11 PM:

Prime time for the liver to detox our antibody system.

Ideally, one should be relaxing and chilling during this time period so as to place minimal stress on our liver, allowing it to function smoothly.

11PM - 1AM:

Prime time for the liver to detox itself. This can be done best when you are in deep sleep.

1AM - 3AM:

Prime time for the liver to detox our gall. Likewise, it is ideal for you to be asleep during this period.

3AM - 5AM:

Prime time for the liver to detox our lungs. Since this involves our respiratory tracts, you might experience sudden coughing during this period. But its normal and the coughs will die off eventually. And you guessed it. Its best to be asleep.

5AM - 7AM:

Prime time for the liver to detox our colon. You should be awake to empty your bowels.

9AM onwards till 9PM:

Liver produces bile during this period which is then used to digest all the food you ate. Bile production is higest at 9am and decreases to the lowest at 9pm, which is why you shouldn't eat too late at night. If you really have to eat, make do with fruits and vegetables. These are easier to digest than meat.

So, by sleeping early and avoiding suppers or eating late dinners, we will place less strain on our delicate liver which in turn, enables it to purge our bodies of undesirable toxins more efficiently. This will ultimately translate into a healthier you. And better skin complexion!

As the ancient chinese saying goes "Sleeping and waking early is good for your body."

And, as I say, "Always start your day with a dump!".

With that, I wish everyone a healthy start to the Year of the Rabbit!

Photobucket

Yes, the People's Republic of China has succeeded in manipulating hyperspace. Although they only managed to teleport a single particle, I am damn sure they will not rest until they can teleport the entire Terracotta Army to the doorstep of Washington D.C.

Photobucket

And when that happens, Russian President Medvedev will be thinking how fortunate he was to have signed that treaty with China.

Photobucket

When that day comes, I hope some astronomical catastrophe - an unprecedented super massive coronal mass ejection, Jupiter crashing into Earth, a black hole floating past our atmosphere or the Sun deciding to go supernova - will happen to wipe out all life on Earth.

The day when China rules the world... is unthinkable.

Oh, in case you are wondering, I got this piece of information from WikiLeaks.

Admiral Kizaru of the Marines.

For some reason, I feel like cos-playing him. The thought came into my mind after I watched him in action in the One Piece anime where he goes around kicking people at the speed of light like nobody's business.

Here's a guy who did a pretty nice cos-play of Kizaru (but the suit looks kinda... tacky). I think its the shape of the mouth. I wonder if I can shape my mouth like that. Hmm...

Or, I could combine Pikachu and him together to cos-play two of my favorite characters at one go! (Notice the mouth shape again.)

Coming back home today to paradise - ahhhh.

This has always been what I wanted. After a long day outside, I just want to come home and enjoy the serenity of solitude, away from the hustle and bustle of the Lion city. Silence. Peace. Tranquility.

Chilling out with my smooth jazzy music. Sipping freshly made orange juice through a straw. Lying on the couch. Enjoying the cool air from the air-conditioner. What more could I ask for?

Usually, I would arrive at home to face my nephew and niece, which my mom is babysitting while my brother and his wife are away at work. A toddler and primary school kid isn't exactly the kind of relaxation I am looking forward to at the end of the day. I personally feel that if you really want to have children, make sure you have time for them. But never mind about that. I shan't spoil the lovely mood tonight.

And when the kids are not around, I will have to face my mom's and dad's endless barrage of well-intentioned questions: "Have you eaten?", "What did you do today?", "Can you help me read this letter?", this and that and yada yada. I am not saying they are irritating but sometimes, I just don't want to be talked to, bothered and just want to be left alone. Plus because I don't have my own room, I cannot 'escape' from them.

They are all now in Malaysia for a short vacation. My parents, my brother, his wife and the kids. And they won't be back till Saturday.

I am going to enjoy this rare period of nirvana!

Commercial airliners are a wonder of the 20th century. These machines, which are a gazillion times heavier than air, can easily carry a few hundred passengers, together with their luggage and the fuel and supplies required to operate the craft, into the air and fly at speeds of many times the speed of sound!

Never did our ancestors dare to dream that we would someday be able to soar freely in the sky. And they surely didn't expect us to be able to fit bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens into our flying machines.

How is it possible for something so heavy to simply lift off and float in the sky? Well, part of the reason is because of the huge engines on commercial airliners which generates immense amounts of thrust to keep the plane in flight.

Jet engine is the most common type of engine used to propel modern airliners.

A jet engine works by sucking in air and then expelling them out at high speeds and temperature to generate the thrust required to push the airliner forward.

An airliner can easily weigh up to several hundred tonnes. Thats in thousands of kilograms mind you. To understand the amount of thrust required to propel an airliner forward, picture this:

an average human being weighs about 60 kg and all it takes is for a car traveling at maybe 80km/h to hit the person and he will go flying for several metres before crash landing. Airliners usually travel at about 900km/h. And they weigh several hundred thousand kilograms.

So, you now have a rough idea of how strong the suction of a jet engine is. Therefore, if the jet engine happens to be sucking anything else other than air...

In this context, the jet engine is not unlike a meat grinder.

Actually, the input doesn't necessary have to be a cattle. You can put in other types of meat and you will still get more or less the same output.

In other words, the meat in your MegaMac could be human and you won't know it. I discovered this shocking fact while reading Fast Food Nation but I will probably elaborate more on that in a separate post.

Now back to the main objective of this post: on January 16, 2006, an aviation mechanic was carrying out his routine maintenance duties on a Boeing 737 at El Paso International Airport in Texas, USA when he stepped too close to one of the plane's jet engines and... got transformed.

I really hope his death was swift and instant. Its really a brutal way to die. Talk about now you see him, now you don't.

Hmmm... maybe I should re-consider my career options.

This sensation is... suffocating!

I feel like King Arthur without the Excalibur - powerless, weak, worthless. I can only go where the flow takes me. I can't carve a path for myself.

Could this be karma. Oh my gosh.

I feel like lying in bed the whole day and just rot. Bad.

November 15, 2010

Goodbye horses.
I am flying over you.

Russian Federation, Canada and United States of America are the 3 largest nations in the world. Russia, the largest of the three, occupies a total land area of 17,075,400 km2, spanning the eastern tip of Asia all the way to Eastern Europe. Canada is the second largest, measuring 9,984,670 km2, followed by the United States which is 9,826,675 km2 big.

For demotivational purposes, if any, Singapore is only 710.2 km2 big. Yes, we are smaller than New York City.

But it doesn't really matter because we are all part of our beloved planet Earth, which is the largest planet within the inner solar system.

Yeah. We are huge alright. But when we move out into the outer solar system...

Screw you Jupiter! Are you on steroids on something? How the hell did you get so fat? Even Neptune is insanely bigger than Earth.

WHAT THE HECK! Sun! You are one huge badass mofo!!! Just don't roll over. Really. With 99.9% of the Solar System's mass inside you, once you start rolling, you will never stop.

And this is a family photo of our Solar System, showing who stays where. Seriously, the Sun looks like a super mean, super dangerous meatball which will roll over us sooner or later. But actually...

As huge as the Sun is to us, it is nothing compared to these other even bigger stars outside our Solar System. Arcturus can easily EAT the Sun for breakfast, lunch, high-tea, dinner and supper anytime.

We have entered a realm where no adjectives in the human language can effectively convey the sheer size of these monstrous stars. Big? Huge? Gigantic? Immense? Colossal? Gargantuan? How about very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very big.

There exists something else which is larger than Arcturus! And its like a million times larger! Which makes it a gazillion times bigger than our Sun. And infinitely larger than Earth! Even Jupiter has been reduced to invisibility at that level. If Antares were to roll into our neighbourhood, we will all die.

Holy shit. Outer space sure is a scary place.

November 11, 2010

I went to sleep at 10pm yesterday because I was really burnt out from the past 3 days of academic activities and other stuffs. Mostly academic activities. I wanted to get a good rest before chionging for my 40% quiz this Saturday. Yes. Saturday. The Laws of the Right to Have the Weekends to Yourself no longer holds in the context of university life.

Heck, even the natural Law of Singapore should have more Singaporeans has been violated in my school. But whatever.

So I woke up at 2.22am just now thinking that its 6.30am and time to head to school. But when I saw the little time counter at the bottom of my BlackBerry screen displaying 2.22am, I went ballistic on my family. I kicked my parents' bed, waking them up and giving them the shock of their lives. When they asked me what is wrong, I went into a hysterical tantrum, yelling at the top of my voice and knocking over all the furniture in my room. I went out into the living room and wreck the television. My dad tried to restrain me but I knock him out cold with the radio. My mom was yelling for me to stop. I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know what got into me.

You don't seriously believe that bullshit I just typed do you?

And so I woke up pre-maturely, feeling unusually parched. I guess that's probably the reason I woke up. The human body really has a good warning system. I could have died from dehydration if I didn't wake up to drink. So after a few cups of water, I am too bloated to go back to sleep.
